Katie is a wonderful guide. A real plus to have a Art History major showing us the sights. The food was wonderful. There were just enough breaks to make walking in the heat manageable. I will definitely be looking for more tours like this one!

My husband and I are locals and we decided this would be a nice way to spend a Saturday by learning more about our neighborhood and trying out new restaurants without too much commitment. The tour guide Don was great, amiable and did a wonderful job of making the experience fun. We have been on food tours in other states and this was one of the best. Well worth the expense and they definitely didn't skimp on portion sizes, we were stuffed!

Loved all the restaurants we dined in. The buildings themselves had a great history. Not too much walking, but enough to walk off each course as we went! Katie our guide was very informative and a great host. This is the second tour I have done with DC metro food tours and I would do it again!

I search for food tours when visiting cities around the US as it's a wonderful way to get to know the area and sample food at some of the best restaurants. This tour in Old Town Alexandria did not disappoint. Katie was very knowledgable about the area, walking us through the highlights while making sure that we enjoyed each restaurant stop. Each of the restaurants welcomed the group, immediately showed us to a table and brought out the sample. After four stops it certainly was a complete meal. I'd recommend the tour and company to anyone. Knowing that we were visiting for the next few days, Katie also made recommendations for the rest of our trip.

The last place did not match the others with either service or food....which was dessert. It was a self serve place, they were not ready for us and did not have the special dessert that the tour guide recommended and lead us to believe they had....and the alternatives were just so-so.

I had never done a food tour but our friends have done a few so we joined them on the Alexandria tour. Reservations were easy, meeting place was close to parking, and our tour guide spoke clearly and at good volume. We went to 4 restaurants. The first was a place we had been to a few years ago but must have hit on an off night because the fare was much better. Our table was ready and waiting for us. Then we got some history of the area and hit restaurant #2 which even though our table was ready they made us wait for a while (which is also my past experience with this place and thus why I don't go there) A good amount of walking but all mixed in with conversation and facts. I'm slow and have asthma and had no problem keeping up, but I would not take my grandma on a walker on the tour. Third restaurant was great, table was ready and waiting and service was perfect as was the food. This was a place we had tried but fogot about, we will be back. Dessert location seemed unorganized. Overall it was a great sampling and a fun way to spend the afternoon, I will try some other parts of town.

All of us enjoyed the tour. It was pretty scenic and we visited some interesting restaurants. The only thing that was lacking a bit was the amount of food we were served. I read on some of the posts that the participants would be so full, dinner could be skipped later. Not quite the case here. We did not eat a lot beforehand to prepare. However, wished we would have all eaten a decent sized meal because the portions were very small. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable day.

We went on this tour as locals entertaining visiting family. This was a very informative tour on the architectural history of Old Town Alexandria that incorporated fantastic food from well-established restaurants. We had a great, friendly, enthusiastic tour guide who works in art history during her day job, so she definitely knew her stuff. She took us through the founding of Old Town and the history of the buildings and restaurants we ate at. The food we ate was both filling and delicious. As people who travel extensively to try new restaurants, we thought that the quality of our tastings was great.

Our weather for the walking tour included cold wind, gusts, rain, sleet, hail, and snow. Becky, our guide, gave us 100% regardless and although we cut some of the discussions short outside (some sleet was actually stinging us) she continued to provide fun facts inside the restaurants. It was memorable in spite of the weather (or maybe because of it a little) but we already want to do it again.

I loved old town Alexandria! Great area and a perfect easy day out! Definitely the best food that I could possibly dream of having. Great portion sizes as well. I am looking forward to trying the other tours! One con: the tour leader wasn't as knowledgeable or as personable as I expected. There were quite a few empty silences and missed opportunities for a history lesson. Otherwise, very highly recommended!

I would not recommend this to someone looking for a food tour but I would be willing to suggest it to someone interested in a light, historical tour. I am local and took family visiting from out of town. We've done food tours in NYC, Boston, etc. and I am a firm believer that the DC area has a lot to offer for culinary enthusiasts, but unfortunately, this tour did not showcase those foodie opportunities. Our guide was mostly nice but has no real knowledge about food and was clearly just doing this job because it's an easy way for him to work only weekends (which is exactly what he told us). I enjoyed the historical facts along the way but I would not describe this tour as being particularly full of a lot of information. If you know about food and are genuinely looking for a food tour, I would move on to something else.

Food tours are a great way to learn a little of the history of the area, as well as provide food samples of several restaurants. This tour met our expectations all the way around. The food was great, large samples, and a nice variety - from main dish, salad, seafood, beverage, and dessert. The buildings in Old Town are historic, and many historic people walked the streets. Our guide was very well versed in the history of the area, and answered all our questions. Personable, easy going, made our 3 and 1/2 hour tour comfortable and fun! We had a nice size group of 10 people. I highly recommend this tour when visiting the DC area.

I'm a 30-something-year old local who hosted four out-of-town friends for a long weekend, each of whom have visited DC previously, so I tried to think of more creative activites than typical monuments and museums. The food tour was a great combination of local history and delicious food - what more could someone want than to eat their way through Old Town? We visited five restaurants in about a 13 block stretch, and along the way learned factoids about the city's founders and landmarks. Felt like the balance was just right of information sharing (to increase appreciation for Old Town) and food sharing (to highlight the neighborhood's diverse and high quality cuisine and bring instant satisfaction to tourers!) The selection of restaurants was good (though I want them to add La Fontaine on Royal Street!) and portions were generous: we skipped dinner afterwards. The tour company had arranged a special dessert at the last stop that was one of George Washington's favorites (and apparently also the Queen of England's favorite?), but my friends found it a bit of an anti-climatic ending and recommended that they let the restaurant select the desert most worthy of being included. Overall, a very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon and highly, highly recommended!

We enjoyed the tour and the history lesson around Old Town Alexandria. The places we went to were good and the food was very good. Was a bit disappointed that we only went to 4 places. Had done a tour previously in NYC where we did about 8 stops, though we didn't sit down at all of those. Had hoped for more "tastes" versus a few stops which were more mini-meals.

I thought the tour was pretty good. I had very high standards, as I had just done one in Raleigh and it was amazing!

This trip has a lot of history, compared to the one I did in downtown Raleigh, which is to be expected, given the location. I thought there could have been more alcoholic drinks provided. This tour provided one beer at the first stop. The other tour I went on, for comparable price in NC, you got 5 drinks (4 contained alcohol)! The food in NC was pretty good, but you definitely had room left over for dinner afterwards, which is what I want in a tour. I would suggest adding more beverages on the trip (at least 3). Overall, the tour was decent, but I wouldn't go on it again. It was a nice one-time experience. I'm purchasing tickets to attend the one I did in Raleigh, NC as we speak, they even have a groupon :) Mabye dc tours can do discounts too and i will take it again

My husband, daughter and myself traipsed down there on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Our guide was waiting for us and we started promptly on time. The group was a pretty even mix of locals/non locals. The guide was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions. He put us all at ease and soon we were all socializing and getting to know each other. The food at every stop was exquisite and we really enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed it so much that we are looking forward to doing the Georgetown tour next!

We absolutely loved our afternoon touring Alexandria. It was like Baby Bear's porridge...Just Right! The walking was not too much, not too little....Just Right. The same about the mini history lessons. The food was delicious! In fact, we returned to our first stop the next day and had lunch. Our tour guide, Alex, was knowledgeable, friend, ly, and professional. We enjoyed having Kate along as a trainee. She'll do well. Our only question was why a Lebanese restaurant was included when it did not seem to have historical significance as the other stops did. Also at that stop, although the food was fresh and tasty, it was difficult to share. There were 8 on the tour and only 2 stuffed grape leaves, 2 meat pies, etc. Since we were a group of strangers, it made sharing difficult. So we did not taste all items. Our suggestion is for the restaurant to offer less variety and enough samples for all to taste. Overall, we absolutely loved our experience!

Excellent introduction to Old Town. There were four food stops (Virtue (excellent), Columbia Fireshouse (excellent), The Pita House (fair), Bittersweet (good) that spanned a two-hour period. The path to the restaurants was a good one, and much needed in between restaurants stops. The guides were easy-going and full of interesting historical information. It really was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. As an activity, I'd defnitely do it again.

I highly recommend the Old Alexandria food tour. Tons of great history and tasty dishes (macaroni and cheese with pancetta, diver scallops with cous cous, sun dried tomatoes and arugula, a sampling of Mediterranean bites like hummus, baba ganoush and grape leaves and Alexandria's pound cake with raspberry preserves!!) You won't be disappointed with the portions -- I doubt you'll leave hungry. Chris, our guide, was very informative and made sure everyone had a great time! He had lots of interesting tidbits of history and help to ensure there was lots of good conversation with the other guests! The 3rd stop was disapointing, with cold food and small portions of Lebanese food. The last stop was very good with the jelly cake. If feasable, giving the group a choise or advanced notice of the main course would be helpful. It appeared that most of the group was not very enthusiastic with the third stop.

our host chris pitt was great, well spoken & made you feel welcome...food was good, the spin/art dip @ virtue was kinda like an applebees item, I think should have been a more of a signature dish...jelly roll @ bittersweet was dry/weak...for me the pita house was the best, vibrant, fresh food that seemed like it had alot of love in it...It would be nice if each restaurant gave you a to go menu for possibly coming back later...overall the tour was informative, interesting, interactive & $$ well spent !

Let me start off by saying that as a couple in our mid twenties in Virginia for the first time this tour was fantastic! We had a great time and the food tour was one of our favorites things we did on our trip. Our tour guide, Alex was fantastic and really a pleasure to be with. He made sure that we were all accounted for, well taken care of and enjoying our time. The history that he gave us on the tour was very informative and thorough. The only reason that I gave this tour a recommended rating versus enthusiastically recommended is due to one of the restaurants we stopped at. Unfortunetly there was a mix up and the employees of the restaurant were really unprepared and did not communicate with one another at all. The food was given to all of us on the tour at different times, there was not enough room, the waiter was rude, they did not give any type of history or bio about the restaurant at all what so ever. Although this restaurant was not up to par the food however was delicious, and none of this being the DC Food Tours fault at all. The rest of the tour went on and there were no further issues. All in all, this was an incredible time and our tour guide was professional and impressive! We will definitely be doing more food tours in the future!

The food was good and the tour guide taught us some interesting things about the city, but I didn't think it was worth $60. We went to four restaurants, all with good food. We were hoping to learn more about the restaurants in the area. Wish they would have take us to more restaurants with less food and less time spent at each.

Chris, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable about the history of Old Town Alexandria. The four restaurants we visited provided generous amounts of delicious food, starting with an appetizer and drink at the first one, and ending with dessert and coffee/tea at the fourth. My wife didn't like the dessert, a raspberry cake, but she doesn't like raspberries. Most of the people in our group seemed to enjoy it though. A choice of a different dessert would be nice for those who don't like raspberries. We were so full that we didn't eat supper that night.

This was my first food tour. I would have to say overall I enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to others. I think Food Tours although called "Food Tours" is not so much about the food but about the experience. I enjoyed the history that came along with the tour and learning about Old Town Alexandria. It was nice to visit restaurants that you would not normally consider. The food was good, I don't think I was blown away by anything, but it's just a fun experience. You will definitely be full, we visited four different restaurants. It makes sense to walk around for the tour in order to aid with digestion and make room for the next stop. We had a small intimate group and were able to talk with others. Our group was only 6 people and I think that was big enough. I think the tour was a bit pricey for the food you get, but paired along with the walking/tour of the city, I would do again.

Good mixture of historical and food tour. Guide very informative and pleasant. Restaurants well chosen, although for myself I would have left out the Lebanese restaurant. I highly recommend the Old Town Alexandria Food Tour! Austin, our tour guide was cheerful, outgoing and very organized. She would call ahead the restuarants that we were going to be eating at so that when we arrived we were seated immediatly together with our group. Austin also gave a very informative tour of Old Town as we walked from restaurant to restaurant. The food was amazing at all 4 places we ate at. We were welcomed at each of the restaurants we dined at and were treated extra special. We also had the opportunity to meet some really nice people in our tour group. It's a great experience, a lot of fun, great food and remember to come hungry! We plan on taking the Georgetown Food Tour soon!

Perfect for people who live in DC, and tourists.

I lived there for 2.5 years, my fiance for 25 years, and for romantic weekend we decided to take the Old Town Alexandria food tour with Leslie (our guide) who was delightful!

The tour was 3.5 hours long, and $60 per person (worth every penny) We started off in Market Square, and ventured to four places along the tour, all the while Leslie giving us really interesting facts about the history of DC and Old Town. This was perfect for us, being that I am a bit of a foodie, and my significant other loves history. Our group has a total of 12 with locals and people visiting. We stopped at Virtue Feed and Grain (delicious homemade Hop tails (beer cocktails), the Columbia Firehouse (really great risotto, and scallop with many, many local beers) The Pita House (which was my favorite, super clean flavor, grandma's simple yet yummy recipes) and Bittersweet Bakery (Alexandria Jelly cake). It was a beautiful day to walk the streets of Alexandria with the Cherry Blossoms and brides everywhere, its a perfect thing to do in the Spring/Summer. Great for a gift for your boss, parents, boyfriend/girlfriend, or anyone. They also do private tours for bridal parties and team building corporate activities. We had walked by several of these places time and time again, and didn't know the great food that was inside! Leslie was super friendly, knowledgeable about the DC food scene, and very personable. I would highly recommend this tour, or others in DC for anyone who loves food, or is looking to do something new and different in DC.

We (my husband and I) really should have tried this earlier in our vacation, as we had a really nice time!

We took the Old Town Alexandria Food Tour. We walked all around Old Town Alexandria. Our guide, Leslie, was extremely knowledgeable. There were 10 of us in the tour, some locals, others not. The locals said they learned some new facts about Alexandria that they had not known. We (tourist) definitely learned about Old Town Alexandria. Along the tour, we stopped, as Leslie (our guide), told us interesting stories and facts about various houses and buildings. We saw one of the two remaining cobblestone streets in Alexandria (but I won't mention the name, as you need to take the tour to learn that). We also learned what the "purple door" meant back in colonial time. If you want learn what those meant, please take the tour.

Oh, where is the food you ask? We stopped at four different restaurants along the tour, and were treated to four different meals, one of which was dessert. Dessert was the Jelly Cake - again, you'll find out more about this cake when you take the tour. By the way, it was Yummy!

Would we recommend DC Metro Food Tours - YES!!!! They offer other tours for other areas in DC. We are planning on other vacations to the area, and will definitely take more of the DC Metro Food Tours. Maybe they can come out west too? It's just a suggestion. Thanks DC Metro Food Tours!

Offered a variety of cuisine and local fare, while walking approximately 1.5 miles. Historical anecdotes accompanied the on-foot portion which were entertaining and informative. Our food stops included a cheddar cheese skillet with grilled veggies and a cocktail (appetizer), scallops and couscous, lebanese sampler (humus, pita, beef/chicken, etc), and a coffee and cake dessert. All of the food was delicious! We went as a couple and didn't know anyone else in our group, which was still a lot of fun, but I think this would be a great outing with a group of friends. Atmosphere is laid back with plenty of time for conversation.

This was a good tour. We have done tours in New York, San Francisco and Chicago, so we knew what to expect. Our guide was great. The food was good. The Lebanese restaurant served their food family style and needed to serve more of each item. I know the people in my party did not try as many things as they normally would have because we didn't think there would be enough to go around. There were four restaurants on the tour, and I think they needed at least 1 or 2 more. Overall good tour and a good way to spend the afternoon. Very nice, interesting area.

I enjoyed seeing the neighborhood and the descriptions by the guide. Timing was well done. The guide was very accomodating and hospitable. However, the restaurants seemed to get ready at the last minute. Two had inadequate seating. Columbia Firehouse had terrible seating whereby two people barely squeezed into the chair and it was very hot and we were in direct sun. The restaurants seemed to provide food on the cheap, except the Virtue Restaurant which served a drink and a decent 'tasting'. Columbia Firehouse food was small but delicious, and no drink. Come on, lemonade or a coke wouldn't put them out too much, even a small glass. The Bittersweet Bakery was just awful, except the coffee was good. They gave us a dessert they don't even sell. The Jelly Cake was dense and dried up on the cut sides, meaning it had been precut and sitting uncovered for several hours at best. I understand this bakery is a new addition to your "tasting experience". Utterly disappointing end to the tour.

I feel that the restaurants stand to gain publicity and consequently more business but they basically shove us in and seem unprepared in some aspects, especially Columbia and Bittersweet. I also expected to try more than just one food. The lebanese restaurant, Pita, did a better job in this area. I really had a good idea about their food in general and they were not stingy and seemed prepared for us and had adequate seating.

Virtue also was a good all round experience even tho' I do not drink beer, I still enjoyed tasting their specialty. The guide was great.. It was a great representation of the area pub.

I think for the cost and the restaurant presentation, I would gingerly recommend the experience.

Our guide Theresa was fabulous. I'm still daydreaming about the scallops and couscous from her favorite restaurant Columbia Firehouse. Two words.. Ama..Zing!! Seriously. Im a tough critic. Im not fond of scallops or couscous but I

could have this dish over and over again. The scallops were meaty, sweet and perfectly browned and the couscous was cooked risotto-style in a beautiful creamy sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The Hubs and I were taking a brief vacation to Maryland for 2 nights .. We booked the food tour but later realized

it was in Alexandria, VA. We still decided to go. We had a great time and ended up staying in VA for an extra night. I would most definitely recommend this tour. You get to learn about American history, meet some cool people and have some divine food!

Our tour guide (Alex) was very good. We enjoyed learning about the history of Alexandria. Overall, the food was very good and there was a good variety.

Information about the free trolley should be included in directions.

DC Metro tour guides should be provided with some distinctive apparel that clearly identifies them as a tour guide.

Some of the restaurants did not appear to be prepared for our arrival, even though Alex called them ahead of time. Also, there wasn't enough time built into the schedule to allow us to finish our drinks.

The Chef/Owner should meet and greet the group. They tell the group about the restarant and describe the food that they have prepared for us.

At the Pita House, the food was very good, but not everyone got to sample all the dishes. By the time the plates made it to the middle of the table, they were empty. Also, we had no idea what we were eating.

On food tours we have taken in other cities, we were provided with a card that was good for 10% off at any of the participating restaurants for a limited time. With DC Metro, there is no incentive for you to go back for a regular dinner.

Our guide Alex was entertaining as well as respectful of our time & wishes. He described the area of Alexandria in great detail & enthusiastically. Unfortunately, with the exception of the Columbia Firehouse, the meals were less than satisfactory. Blbo Baggins did not live up to its press, the food was cold & service lacking. There was no interaction with the guests to describe the restaurant or the tasting that was prepared. The Pita House provided tasteful samples, but the method of serving did not provide adequate samples for the number of people in arttendance. We found the food tour to be a great introduction to the Alexandria area but felt the food samples did not reflect the cost or represent the quality available in the area.

I had been on food tours in Berkeley, CA, San Francisco, CA, Chicago, IL, and Austin, TX before this Old Town tour and was surprised that the guide, Lynn, indicated at the beginning that we would only be going to 4 restaurant/cafes during the tour. In some of my previous tours, we'd been to as many as 9 places during a tour. What I realized early on though was that we may be going to 4 places, but wow, did they serve us larger portions as compared to my other tours which quickly made be realize that there was nothing lacking here. Sometimes those other tours gave us such a tiny morsel, you're left wanting more. Plus Old Town has much more history in its architecture and colonial stories than some places I've been. I loved it. I definitely did not leave hungry while still feeling I'd gotten a good amount of exercise to boot. I liked all the food, but my favorites were Pita House, the scallops over couscous risotto and the Bilbo Bagins bread. It was fun to end at the coffee/tea/spice shop as it made it convenient to shop. My Chicago food tour took us to a spice shop second to last, and as we had to hurry to every place on a tight schedule, we were told we could not shop. That was a disappointment. I will definitely try another one of your tour when I'm in D.C. again. I'm glad I was able to expose my local friends to the Old Town restaurant scene as they will be able to return with authority, knowing they'll get something great.

I had a nice time on this food tour. You think you know a place just because you live there (I live in DC proper but consider Alexandria close by), but after going on tours like this you realize how much there is to learn! History buffs would definitely get a kick out of this tour. Our guide was nice, bubbly, and very knowledgeable. The stops we made along the tour were interesting. I didn't give this a 5-star rating because for $60, lets be real, drinks or at least a drink should be included. Especially because two of the restaurants on the tour are knows for their extensive beer/wine menus! There was barely enough time to finish a beer before heading to the next place. A fantastic food tour would have food and wine pairings. My second "meh" comment would be the other tour participants. Perhaps I should have known that the Old Town Alexandria tour crowd would be older and straighter in every sense of the word? We were by far the youngest (I'm mid-20s, my Mom is early 50's) and the most lively. Since these tours are small it does matter who else is on the tour with you. I would consider going on another DC Food Tour in a different neighborhood only if I knew that it was going to be a more lively, energetic crowd. I don't mean to be ageist - I know plenty of rowdy retirees. But these folks weren't, and it mattered.

The tour was awesome! 10/10. We had great food, exceptional service at each restaurant, and we walked at a leisurely pace that allowed friendly conversation between everyone in the group. I have never done a food tour before but will definitely be doing one in any other city I visit in the future.

Our tour guide was Lynn and she was the best tour guide I have ever had (on any tour) She was friendly, the whole group loved her, she was informative without bombarding us with loads of information, and while walking between destinations she welcomed any questions even if it had nothing to do with the tour itself.

Thoroughly enjoyed our food tour of Alexandria on August 5. Just moved to the Maryland area, so this was a great way to get acquainted with Alexandria's history and restaurants. We'll definitely go back to the places we visited.

Hope to take the Fells Point tour next

Our tour guide, Mallory, was excellent! She provided in-depth and interesting information about Old Town Alexandria. She was very knowledgeable about the architecture of various homes/buildings, historic figures, and had the participants excited about the food we were going to taste. There were 4 restaurant stops with a slice of jelly cake at the very end. I highly recommend this food tour.

Tour guide was enthusiastic, walk was quite doable. I would have liked a few more historical stops,

and perhaps a little more information about the history of Alexandria during the meals.

Also, I would switch out the Lebanese restaurant. Eating "family style" with strangers

was a little awkward and I didn't see how the restaurant fit in with the theme of the tour. (Although

the food was excellent.)

There were 4 of us with an age range from 65+-12. Our 12 year old likes to try new foods and we were exposed to a variety of delicious meals. Our tour guide, Ada, told us historical tidbits about the neighborhood while walking to the restaurants and we were told about the restaurants' histories too. She did an excellent presentation. This was our first food tour and all of us enjoyed the experience.

We did the Old Towne food tour during our DC vacation. We thought the food selection was interesting and diverse without being so challenging to the palate that only a 'foodie' would enjoy it. Our tour guide Mary Elizabeth is a local resident with excellent knowledge of the local history. She also gave us great suggestions for other activities and 'must see's in the area.

Two thumbs up!

We had a nice afternoon in Old Towne Alexandria with our guide who was very knowledgeable and pleasant. It was a very warm afternoon, but we made the best of it. The factual historical information was very interesting. The food was good with two excellent courses and two courses that were average. This is our second DC Food tour and it remains an excellent value.

We enjoyed the Old Town Alexandria Metro Food Tour - we learned a bit about the city and sampled the food at several local restaurants. I thought the pacing was nice and overall the tour was well-done. Our guide was more knowledgeable about the town/history than the food, though. It may have been nice to speak with someone from each of the restaurants to learn more about the dishes they served.

The combination of a historic tour of Alexandria and sampling from four establishments was absolutely fabulous. And the weather could not have been more perfect. Our tour guide, Ada, was phenomenal. The amount of food was just right for lunch - would have been disappointed if it was dinner. The variety of food was interesting - all very tasty. Taking us off the primary road of King Street helped us better investigate the Alexandria area in comfort. As a first time visitor to Alexandria, highly recommended. I would not recommend children - definitely an adult only activity.

My husband, brother, and I have been on other food tours and had high expectations from that experience. This was not a horrible tour, but since all 3 of us are in our mid 20's we were more interested in the food. That being said our tour guide was great and we did learn alot of interesting info about Alexandria and the buildings there.

The weather was lovely for a walking tour of Old Town and our guide, Mary Elizabeth, was very nice and shared lots of her personal knowledge about the area. We stopped at four restaurants for some delicious food and at the last one tried for the first time ever the popular jelly cake which was so good. Our relatives from Canada really enjoyed themselves as well.......we had all gone on the tour of Georgetown last Oct which we really liked too. Definitely recommend any of these tours since you learn alot about each area, plus get to enjoy some really good food.

My husband found this tour while searching on Trip Advisor for things to do in D.C. and based on reviews, we decided to give this tour a try. I didn't know what to expect and I am by no means a food lover -- but this tour was one of the highlights, if not our favorite activity, during our trip. Our tour guide, Mary, gave excellent history of old town and we stopped at charming restaurants that I otherwise would not have gone to. The food was excellent and the history/sights were superb. I would highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a relaxing way to spend an afternoon learning about history and tasting great food!

Alexandria has had a colorful history. The tour was informative, taking us through Old Town in the company of a well informed guide. The four food/rest stops were well planned and offered us the opportunity to sample from unusual eateries. There were some young people(pre-teen) on the tour who were obviously not impressed with the culinary offerings. If one has a narrow attitude toward different cuisines, another tour might be advisable. But, if you are willing to try new offerings, then the food stops just add to the enjoyment. The tour was recommended to us by our grown daughter and we will recommend it. The walking was not strenuous and the pace was reasonable.

The entire food tour exceeded my expectations. Being a food snob, I was a little cynical about the caliber or food that a big group hopping around to different restaurants. However, the restaurants where we stopped for food were all fantastic and out group was small which made for a very pleasant experience. I was also surprised that the tour was about much more than just food, lots of great historical info on Old Town Alexandria and our tour guide Deena was awesome, very friendly and knowledgable. I should begin by thanking our guide Ada.

You made each guest feel as you were speaking directly to them.

The narration, was fun and friendly. And every question about Alexandria

was met with an answer that was sure to entertain and inform.

The restaurant choices were well received. We would never have found these wonderful places on our own.

The foods that were served were all treats to the palette, and by the end of the day we knew Alexandria Virginia and its flavors as a local might. Ê

We would absolutely recommend this food-history tour.

Anyone who visits Washington DC area,

and locals looking for a nice day out.

This is the one.

And make sure you ask for Ada,

A+ day.

Thank you Ada

We have been on the Old Town tour twice now and have had a great time both times. Kate was our tour guide and was great. The food was good and the tour was well organized. Only recommendation would be to have the Union Street Public House offer a better food sampling other than a sandwich. Despite that, still a great way to spend a day.

It was a great mix of walking, talking, and stopping for meals. Dena was our guide and she was very personable and provided some interesting facts about Alexandria. We definitely recommend this to tour to others and we look forward to trying other tours offered by DC Metro Food Tours.

We enjoyed this tour very much. We were 2 couples that are advid foodies. The group was 12 total that went that day. Dena did a great job of explaining so many interesting local facts about specific buildings, the waterline of the Potomoc and customs. We stopped at 4 places. We ate breakfast that morning, and waiting to eat lunch for the tour. Dinner wasn't needed that evening as the small meals were just spread out enough that you were perfectly content. I recommend very much this for a day trip for those that live not too far from DC. We're thinking or trying one of their other DC tours in DC proper. It's a good deal of walking. I think it was close to 5 miles after it was all done (we clocked it). It didn't feel like that far as we walked at a comfortable pace.

The tour Guide was a nice guy and very engaging. He was knowledgeable. We had dietary restrictions and he did a great job in trying to make sure they were met. One restaurant made a couple of mistakes and he spoke with them to rectify what he could. They did a good job in their rectification. It was our wedding anniversary and he gave us a small gift at the final destination to make up for the restaurants error. I would use them again but would suggest that a beverage besides water is included in at least one of the meals for the price that we pay.

thanks.

Good information on Alexandria during the tour. Restaurants were nice as were food portions starting with portobello mushroom appetizer at first stop, scallops at second, BBQ pork slider and chowder at third, and jelly roll cake with tea at last stop. I had hoped that we'd go to some of the best restaurants in town, but these were more in the mid-range so mixed feelings about price versus the restaurants on the tour. However, everyone had a nice time, and definitely good for out of town visitors.

What a great tour! Our guide, Dena, was really great and very accommodating. We are "regulars" to Old Town but never really appreciated the history that surrounded us there until we went on this tour. Very enlightening! I just hope we can remember a portion of the "fun facts" that were pointed out!!! Oh, and the food was pretty good too--unfortunately for us we had previously been to all of the restaurants we visited--but we can say we had never tried the selections we had--and they were all very good! We didn't go away hungry that's for sure! I would recommend this tour and maybe you'll be lucky enough to have Dena as your tour guide!

Slightly disappointed mainly I was expecting more of sampling the goods that's relevant to the tour, I guess I was expecting a food tour that brings that sort of food that was being offered back in the day. Like for example when we took the food tour in NYC..we went to one of the oldest pizza place and was served the real pizza from scratch..saw the store where the cheese and milk were produced..for the amount of money we paid for..its $60 dollars per person..I expected more history and the relevant of the place and food at the same time, dont take us to 4 different restaurant just because their food is the best because Im sure some might think its the best, meaning they are really not a foodie like ourselves, they dont cook so a lil bit of flavor is already what they call heavenly..you can improve this tour...do your research..Im glad i didnt book the other food tour from this company coz it will be a waste of money and time

I came to the tour with a friend who had been reluctant to try an historic food tour. We both enjoyed the academic and gastronomic parts of the tour. Each offering was very good, except for the Union Station cod chowder/ pork slider. The tour guide was pleasant but not overly enthusiastic , he revealed that he was not giving the tour for the love of it but just to bide his time until he got another opportunity, that took away from the genuine feel of the tour, would recommend, in fact I gave the info to my hotel concierge to use.

Our tour guide Dena was awesome, very friendly and knowledgable. Even though I'm from Alexandria and have been to Old Town many, many times, I learned quite a bit of new history. I understand that the organizers are trying to get off the main street with regards to restaurant sampling, but the places we visited were actually well known, and our group had actually eaten at all of them in the past. But with that said, each meal was very tasty, something we never would have picked off the menu. The last stop was a traditional dessert of jelly roll cake at the local tea shop, it was the BEST!! A wonderful end to the day, plus a little shopping at the tea shop. Thank you!
