Indulging in fried green tomatoes topped with jalapeno cheddar cheese, shrimp, and Szechwan chili sauce in a turn of the century bank?!? How about a slow roasted brisket and pork sandwich au jus in an actual 19th-century grain mill that has been regarded as a local favorite for over 20 years?!?
These were just a few of the items I got to experience on the Inagural Leesburg food tour back on Friday, June 15th. It was phenomenal and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is a region that takes absolute pride in its rich historical past and locally sourced quality restaurants and cuisine. Our tour guide Jenna did an awesome job of providing that wonderful blend and balance of Leesburg's food and history!
I would definitely take the 45 minute trip from Fairfax to eat at these places again and try more dishes. After all, I learned that a couple of them were rated as "Destination Restaurants" in Loudoun County by the International Culinary Tourism Association (ICTA) which basically means that people would travel just to eat there because it simply offers them something special. For a culinary/cultural experience that is unique, educational and entertaining, Leesburg is definitely a tour that will satisfy you and your palate :) |
